The ultimate lesson of Human Design is to teach us to fully accept, love, and trust ourselves. 

This has been my interpretation and experience of working with this beautiful system. In my personal application, as well as seen for what it enabled for others.

And what I constantly am learning about it that help me to unlearn deeply rooted ideas or beliefs about who I am. 

A couple years into my Human Design journey, I can no longer remember exactly when – I discovered the alternative calculations of Human Design. And specifically Sidereal.

I was curious to check it out, but also knew that I wasn’t ready to hear what my alternate calculation would be. Because I was still learning and settling into acceptances with my Tropical design.

Imagine for example, that you have been going through the journey of learning, and starting to deeply understand yourself (and life until now) after discovering that you are a Projector, then to learn that in Sidereal calculations you are in fact a Generator. And the sort of whiplash that may create when initial realisations still need to settle. 

But before I go further, backing up a bit to explain a bit what I mean. 

The base of Human Design calculations is based upon astrological alignments at the time of birth (and 88 days before that for the unconscious design).

However, there are multiple interpretations and calculations when it comes to astrology and the origins of that stem from both the acknowledgement that the sky is ever changing, but also rooted in the deeper foundational and philosophical anchors behind the purpose of using astrology for interpretations.

Broadly, there are 2 main systems that have emerged.

Tropical (which is the ‘traditional’ astrological view), is how Ra Uru Hu received the Human Design System as a transmission already built within – along with the other systems including I-Ching, Kabbalah, Chakra energies. It is based on the Sun placement in relation to Earth’s seasons. Because it is seasonally based, the intention is that it is more grounded in the human experience based on seasonal reality (which was a point of view that Ra strongly held and intended – that Human Design was intended to steer the earthly human existence). 

Sidereal astrology maps placements based on actual placements and constellation in the sky. It acknowledges that the constellation shifts slightly (a slow drift) every year. At present, there is approximately a 24-degree difference between Tropical and Sidereal calculations.

Some practitioners view Sidereal calculations as being more reflective of soul-level energies (beyond the earthly experience) tied to this form of calculation. Because it is more precisely aligned to actual placement in the constellation.

The real lesson with this though is really about Detachment. 

Forming strong over-attachments to anything when it comes to anchoring identity is dangerous because it can start to create new limitations and lessen our conscious connections to ourselves. To simply trust, in what we feel and know, in every given moment. 

One can say – that for the one that truly is connected, and knows and trusts themselves – Human Design is not really needed, or will add much. But as we know, the human existence is one of which a range exists. 

Sometimes we will be fully comfortable with our being, but with the waves of turbulence, there will be moments where we get thrust into uncertainty. I have personally found it to be an anchor for self exploration and reconnection with myself in those moments. 

Human Design is therefore to many (particularly clients of mine who have opened up to it in certain moments) to be more to become a guide in certain moments of blockages or seeking clearer enlightenment, and I recognise that I am (as well as many others) are still building this intrinsic trust and belief in the self. 

According to Sidereal Human Design I am a 3/5 Generator in alternative calculations.

And in many ways when I view the chart there is something on a subconscious level that it hits. 

For example my throat that is defined in my Tropical chart becomes undefined in the Sidereal. And specific throat gates that are hanging or undefined in my tropical chart – such as the Gate 23 (gate of synthesised communication) becomes defined in my Sidereal. 

To accept the existence of such a chart is the acceptance that multiple truths may be possible for you inside all at once. 

As Debbie Ford said in her book The Dark Side Of The Light Chasers and a quote that has always stuck with me… 

“Once we accept the fact that each of us embodies all of the traits in the universe, we can stop pretending that we are not everything.” 

Beautiful because it is in realising that there is infinite potential in every one of us. Which is why Human Design will only ever be a portal to enter and start the journey within – rather than a definitive destination.

2. Are there parts that I feel I am frequently over-identifying with and perhaps even using as an excuse in ways that may be disempowering (signs of conditioning) 
3. Am I seeking a new identity through these systems, or am I using them to deepen trust in who I already am? 
4. Where in my life am I ready to release over-attachment to labels or fixed ideas of myself?
5. What would it be like to hold space for multiple possibilities about my nature without needing immediate certainty?
